Pizzo & Associates, Ltd. completed a lawn-to-prairie transformation at the historic Graceland Cemetery in Chicago and the results are incredible. Starting in 2014, we worked with a landscape architecture firm and the Cemetery’s Board to create a beautiful prairie that is now home to birds, butterflies, and other native wildlife.
Native Landscape Contractors, LLC is responsible for the ongoing maintenance of this 310-acre project for the Illinois Tollway and Lake County Forest Preserves while ecology + vision, llc is conducting 5-year monitoring and reporting. The project began in 2013 as we worked with a general contractor to begin to restore this natural area.
Since 2007, Pizzo & Associates, Ltd. has been the Village’s Native Landscape and Water Quality Maintenance Contractor and is charged with maintaining the Village‐controlled basins and naturalized areas. The stewardship program focuses on sustainability and the overall aesthetic of each site within the village.
Since 2006, Pizzo & Associates, Ltd. has been restoring and stewarding the stormwater basin at the Nantucket Cove community. The Village of Schaumburg mandated native plantings for the severely eroded shoreline. Originally the HOA Board of Directors had priced out a riprock stone solution, but our proposal for a native shoreline buffer came in significantly under that budget.
ecology + vision, llc conducted the conceptual design, design development, and completion of full bidding documents for Geneva Park District’s Peck Farm newly phased 36 acre park. Initial work included converting the existing agricultural field to prairie on the Miller Parcel and a mix of prairie, wet prairie, and savanna ecotypes on the Thompson Parcel. We provided follow-up vegetative monitoring and reporting to ensure performance criteria were satisfied prior to acceptance.
ecology + vision, llc has conducted detailed inventories of existing vegetation for multiple naturalized basins, all of which are stormwater facilities owned by the Village of Tinley Park. The project includes detailed vegetative inventories, critical analysis regarding the quality of natural vegetation and its distribution throughout the properties, recommendations for ecological restoration, and recommendations for phasing with specific cost estimates for restoration and long-term stewardship.
ecology + vision, llc was retained by the project landscape architect to design the native planting areas, including a 1 acre sustainable buffalo grass lawn. Panduit is a global manufacturer and distributor of electrical solutions, their World Headquarters in Tinley Park, Illinois is built to be a model of sustainability and a template for environmental and societal leadership…not just for today, but for future generations.
ecology + vision, llc advised the Chicago Park District on revitalization of the Peace Garden landscape, including tree removal recommendations, design, and plant palette. ecology consulted on select tree removals and structural pruning in order to allow dappled light to the understory.
Conducted conceptual design, design development, and completion of full bidding documents for the Urbana Park District’s Anita Purves Nature Center Habitat Garden. The project consists of a 2 acre parcel surrounding the Nature Center, bounded by the Saline Drainage Channel, and also serves as the access point to Busey Woods, a 59 acre woodland that contains high-quality remnant areas of woodland, savanna, prairie, wetland, and riparian ecosystems.
Adjustable Forms Inc. (AFI), one of the most respected and advanced cast-in-place concrete construction firms in the country, had outgrown their current facility located in Lombard, IL. They wanted to renovate and expand upon their current 8,000 sqft office and 12,000 sqft warehouse spaces. ecology + vision, llc (ecology) worked closely with the architect and owner to develop a landscape design for the two-acre project site that complements the building aesthetic, reduces maintenance costs, eliminates irrigation and contributes to LEED Gold certification.
